Finally! as of roughly half past eight, 17th june, Uncle Wozzer had burnt a DVD!
And, surprisingly, there were no flames. Anyone following this blog will know I purchased a DVD burner a while ago. And after, what must be a couple of months, it has finally done it’s job!
More accuratly, i’ve burnt a mini-disc. But a DVD none the less! It took 2 evenings, four differnt programs, much swearing and temptation to destroy something. I used DivX Player first, which failed me. Then i used Windows Media Player, which can only handle CD’s so failed. The bog-standard drag and drop method failed as the drive wasn’t having any of it. And finally Movie Maker could export to DVD, only CD.
Then came the revelation! It came on DivX, I decided to try once more. Before, I put the disk in after cueing up the file to burn, this failed. This time, I put the disk in first, which worked. The Burn tab registered that there was a disk present and had a thousand or so free MB to use. Thus, sensing triumph, I cued the file once more and; BINGO! It told me this file (which is a full length feature movie) would take up 55% of the available space, and with baited breath I clicked “Burn”. “Initalizing” was followed by “burning 5%”, then “burning 7%” and so on for a few minuites, untill 100% showed up, and “finalizing” appeared for a little bit before the DVD tray ejected to present me with a freshly burnt (and still warm) mini-DVD!
After quality checking on a portable DVD player, I ran around the house showing everyone the fruits of my efforts. I WIN!
Untill the next time…
Uncle Austin Wozzer
